In a world that obsesses so much about beauty, weight, and strength, it is funny that we have so little true connection with our bodies. Most of us would never treat another person with the disrespect we give our bodies. We walk around absorbed thinking we’re our minds with no idea what’s going on in our gut, our lungs, our hearts, or any part of our physicality.

Maybe if you, like me, have done some spiritual practice, you’ve been beaten up even more with the idea that you’re not your body and you should spend all your time trying to “be spirit” and so the poor physical creature gets even more neglected and abused. Of course, we’re not our body only, but we’ve been fortunate enough to get this amazing vehicle to carry around our brains and to become the focus of our Spirit. We’re going to have a lot more fun being human if we treat the body well.
